Eddie L. Martinhas been a resident of Prince George's County for over 30 years and a City Commissioner since 2004.  His career in public service has focused on education, sports, and advocating for senior citizens.  He also serves as the Police and Code Enforcement Departments Commission Liaison.

Vice Mayor Martin worked in the District of Columbia school system for over 18 years. During his last four years of service, he acted as Dean of Students on the Junior High level. Before going to work for the University of the District of Columbia and Montgomery County Jr. College as an Assistant Football Coach, Vice Mayor Martin served as the talk show host of "Sports Play," which aired on  D.C. Public School Education Channel, 28. He also served as Director of a teen center for the D.C. Department of Recreation. In 1974, he helped to coordinate the Black Men's Youth Forum in D.C. Public Schools.

Vice Mayor Martin has been instrumental in fostering partnerships with large corporations in order to bring more services and events to the City of District Heights. He recently teamed up with Southwest Airlines and AARP to bring the world renowed Phonics and The Intruders to the City of District Heights for a concert for senior citizens. He was also successful at bringing the men, women, and youth of the Bill Pickett Black Rodeo to the City of District Heights. He has been recognized by the Maryland House of Delegates and the Missouri House of Representatives for his committment to public service.

Commissioner Martin is a former Washington Redskin. He was signed to the Redskins as a running back. Vice Mayor Martin is active in serveral organizations including the National League Football (NFL) Alumni, Inc.; Black College Coaches Visiting Program; High School Golf Coaches Association; Hiram Lodge #4 F&AM, Prince Hall Mason in Washington, DC; and the Citizen Action Patrol. He is a member of the NAACP, and volunteer golf coach at Wilson Sr. High School in Washington, DC. He also runs summer golf camps for youth.

He recieved his certification as a professional golf instructor from the United States Golf Teaching Federation, Capital City Golf School (CCGS), and the Professional Golf Association (PGA). Vice Mayor Martin provides free golf lessons to underpriveledged youth and to senior citizens. He has won several golf tournaments including the National Association of Health Services Executives Annual Golf Tournament, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Annual Golf Tournament, and the Ben E. King Celebrity Golf Tournament. He also placed 2nd in the 2006 Maryland Municipal League Tournament, and 3rd in the 2nd Annual MCDC Lazarus Hines Memorial Celebrity Golf Tournament. In 2005, Vice Mayor Martin came placed first in the Hampton Open.

He is a graduate of the University of the District of Columbia and has attended Howard University's School of Business. He is an Academy Fellow of the University of Maryland Institute for Governmental Service, and was recently accepted to Harvard University's Leadership Development Institute at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Vice Mayor Martin also had the privilege of serving as the Grand Marshall for the Bill Pickett Black Rodeo in 2006 and 2007 at the Show Place Arena.
