I am a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia.  I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation and Physical Education from Howard University and a Master of Arts degree in Recreation Administration from the University of Maryland.  I am a 2015 graduate of the Academy of Excellence in Local Governance with the University of Maryland and the Maryland Municipal League.  I worked for the District of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department (DCPRD) for 12 years.  I worked on playgrounds, at community centers, and school based facilities.  I also worked as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in facilities that serviced individuals with special needs (Sharp Health School and the DC Therapeutic Recreation Center). I worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) for 25 years.

I began my career at WRAMC as the Patient Recreation Program Director and ended my career there as Chief, Community Recreation Division in 2011 when I retired.  While at WRAMC, I worked for nine years with the Wounded Warriors (service members that were injured in Iraq and Afghanistan).   I also worked for one year as the Youth Activities Director at Fort Myers Army Base.  I am a retired Master Sergeant from the United States Army Reserves, with 26 years of service.   While in the Army Reserves, I was a Career Counselor/ Retention NCO.  I was at staff level and was responsible for visiting various units in the 99th RRC and the 97th ARCOM to ensure that soldiers were being taken care of properly and per regulations.  The units were located in Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, District of Columbia, and Pennsylvania

My daughter and I moved to the Municipality of District Heights in 1992.  In May 2014, I was elected by the citizens of the Municipality of District Heights, as a Commissioner for Ward II.              I am a member of First Baptist Church District Heights, Prince George’s County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., Prince George’s County Chapter of the National Council of Negro Women, Women in Municipal Government, Women in National Government, and AARP Suitland Chapter 939.  I was elected to serve on the Executive Board of the Prince George’s County Municipal Association. I was selected to serve on the Prince George’s County Dementia Friendly America Board (Mid-County).

  • NLC Service Line Warranty Program

    The City of District Heights is notifying residents of a program provided through the National Leauge of Cities (NLC) Service Line Warranty Program administered by Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA). This program offers a warranty to homeowners that covers repairs or replacements of the outside water line that runs from the point of utility responsibility to the home. Property owners are accountable for these repairs, not the utility.
