Throughout his personal life and professional career, Jamal I. Miller (Commissioner-Ward 2) has used his talents, abilities, and passion for change to answer the call to service; making the difference in his community and the lives of others.
In his native Philadelphia, Jamal was always engaged in many positive community activities, including his involvement with the New Freedom Theater; and was selected to speak about issues impacting teens in the city on a local teen talk show called "Rap-Around".
Jamal's invlovement continued as a student at Morehouse College, where he served as President of the Pennsylvania Club, and a Mentor with both the Morehouse Mentoring Club and the Ford Teacher Scholars program. Realizing the need for strong male role models, he graduated with a Degree in Early Childhood Education.
After earning a Master's Degree from the University of Rhode Island, Jamal began teaching in Prince George's County Public Schools. He eventually purchased a home in the community where he taught, District Heights, as he understood that being a role model does not end when the school day is over.
Since his arrival in 1999, Jamal has been very active in political and civic activities throughout Prince George's County. Jamal served as the Executive Vice President for the Prince George's County Young Democrats, on the county's Minority Business Opportunities Commission, Ambassador for the Envision Prince George's Initiative, and a member of the City of District Heights Ethics Commission, just to name a few.
