Overview

In addition to providing counseling services to individuals in the community, the District Heights Family & Youth Services Center prides itself in creating programs that are beneficial to all participants. Programs are offered in a nondiscriminatory manner, without regard to race, religion, gender, disability, or sexual orientation. We are constantly looking to create and implement new programs that pro-actively help our community prosper.

Your Life Matters Series

All of the workshops are at no cost to the families!

  • College Matters Workshops & Tours
    • We provide 6 tours per year, at no cost to the families!
    • Normally scheduled on the College/University open house days
    • If you are in 8th grade and above, you are more than welcome to come along on the tours!
  • Money Matters Workshops
    • Focuses on fiscal responsibilities
    • Helping students to understand money management
  • Career Matters Workshops
    • Focuses on career exploration
  • Kindness Matters Workshops
    • Participants of this workshop will receive psychoeducation about anger, its impact and possible consequences. Participants will gain knowledge about kindness (an anger alternative) and ways to incorporate healthier, positive methods for managing anger. During this workshop, participants will learn recipes that promote healthy eating to improve mood and over-all health

Active Parenting Workshop

This program will give you the guidance and support that you need to turn the challenges of raising a teenager into opportunities for growth. In this workshop, you will learn:

  • Methods of respectful discipline
  • Skills for clear, honest communication
  • Concrete strategies to prevent risky behavior
  • How to be an encouraging parent

Nuts & Cuts

A program that is a collection of workshops that helps families make healthier choices. This program is designed to support the Governor’s office for Children’s Initiative to Reduced Childhood’s Hunger. This program is held twice a month. Nuts & Cuts includes the following workshops:

  • Nutrition
  • Budgeting for Healthy Meals
  • Gardening to Grow Healthy Meals
