Overview

The City of District Heights and the District Heights Police Department offers a Community Empowered Policing strategy to the District Heights residents and businesses.  District Heights Community Policing is a joint venture between the District Heights Police Department and the residents and business persons to promote mutual assistance among all of our community representatives and to provide increased safety and security within our neighborhoods.

Community Policing helps deter crime and disorder.  This strategy has been proven to be an effective method among many to deter crime and disorder and to help residents and businesses feel safe.

To participate in our neighborhood Community Empowerment Policing initiative, please contact the City of District Heights Police Department on (301) 336-1400.

Objectives

Community Policing reduces the incidence and fear of crime by:

  • Increasing the awareness of neighborhood crime and disorder through a continuing public information program, including newsletters, flyers and community meetings.
  • Teaching residents, business persons, and visitors ways to secure their personal property, including providing information about security survey programs.
  • Developing a neighborhood action plan where neighbors become more aware of their neighborhood and help watch each other’s property.
  • Encouraging citizens to cooperate with the District Heights Police by reporting suspicious and criminal activity to the District Heights Police Department.
